04 September 2026, five NJSI team members met with the Education Officer and Deputy Mayor; field observations were conducted in affected areas in Bidhur Municipality, Nuwakot. The observation revealed that some of the schools and public buildings have been used as temporary shelters. Although the availability of food items were available at the time of the visit, the requirements of other basic needs were evident.
After the assessment in the field, NJSI made arrangements with the Star Boarding Holding Centre in Ward No. 9, Bidur Municipality. NJSI visited the centre on 6 September, where about 250 flood victims were housed. The center was functioning under capacity with insufficient mattresses, clothes and bed sheets.
On 6 September 2026, NJSI, in collaboration with St. Xavier’s School Jawalakhel, distributed relief packages to the centre through a team led by Fr. Boby Joseph SJ. The centre was sheltering 250 flood-affected residents, mostly from Meghang and Likhu rural municipalities. The materials supported by St. Xavier’s School included individual kits with daily essentials, utensils, food and other essentials such as torch lights and handwash.
On 6 September, the second team led by Fr. Augustus Ekka SJ conducted a second field visit to Galchi Rural Municipality, Dhading, where the team met with Mr Thakur Dhungana, Assistant Education Officer and Mrs Gyani Thapa, Principal of Bagheshwori School. The assessment identified urgent educational needs at Bagheshwori School, including science laboratory materials and ICT equipment.
The school reported that 22 desktop computers and 4 laptops had been completely damaged by the flash flood, along with other equipment such as smart boards. The Amleshwori Gurukal Sanskrit Ved Vishram School was reported to have been destroyed, while Success School was preparing to reopen on 7 September. The team also visited the Dhading Bahumukhi Campus holding centre, which was accommodating approximately 62 flood-affected people, including 36 children. NJSI will continue to coordinate with the local authorities and schools to identify priority needs and explore appropriate support for the affected education communities.
