Growing as a Competitive Candidate

Computer education is a knowledge and ability to use computers and technology efficiently. Especially in today’s academic and professional environment, every companies and organizations are highly dependent on computers and want their employees to have decent computer skills. Since computer skills are integral to all areas of study and work, Nepal Jesuit Social Institute is trying to enhance the skills of young and competitive people who are economically backward to acquire the skills themselves.

From 24th of March 2019, first batch of 3 months computer training was started in NJSI office. The training was initially designed to help minimum of 15 students with Computer, spoken English and Office management skills. In order to collect students, social organization were contacted and we were successful to get 12 students but many of them left in the middle of the training. They had so many personal issues and were unable to manage time accordingly due to which they were irregular.

The training included basic as well as advance computer courses like Fast typing skills, Microsoft office, Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere pro. They also received classes on Office management and importance of Communication from Indian volunteers. At last only 4 of them appeared on the qualifying exam which was held at the end of the course on 28th June 2019. The students passed both objective as well as practical test with flying colors, in virtue of which the certificate was awarded to each of them. To celebrate this occasion, NJSI organized a small graduation ceremony on 1st of July in which the students were appreciated for successfully completing the course.

NJSI believes quality matters more than quantity and hence it was proved by the graduating students who were satisfied by the courses provided to them. They were happy and thankful toward NJSI for providing them opportunity to grow as a competing candidate for their future.

A Center for Development

For the development of the marginalized and vulnerable people of Dhading, Dolakha, Kavre, Lalitpur, Ramechhap, Sindhuli and Sindhupalchowk, construction of Regional training center has started. The center will have ample of space for multipurpose training like Tailoring, Beautician, Electrical, Computer, Mason and Model farming.

On 6th of June 2019, the regional superior of Nepal Jesuit Society, Fr. Amrit Rai S.J, regional director of Nepal Jesuit Social Institute, Fr. Arulandam S.J and dignitary staffs went to the site located in Panchkhal, Kavrepalanchowk where Fr. Amrit did the blessing of the land.

Nepal Jesuit Social Institute is planning for sustainable agriculture practice for which model farm will be a great help. It is a farm designed to research and demonstrate improvements in agricultural techniques and efficiency. NJSI will be giving agricultural training in the center itself for which the work has started from 1st of July. Model farm will help to improve economic, food and health security of the people through increasing the volume and variety of agricultural production. It will also help to create job opportunities by improving the access to the market and irrigation and conducting trainings for livelihood programs. The construction is going on a full pace and the regional training center is expected to be completed within a year.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Shree Robang Basic School

On 26th of June 2019, the team of 3 members from Nepal Jesuit Social Institute went to Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-6, Dhading for Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Shree Robang Basic School. Levelling and site clearance has already finished and now the reconstruction of 2015 earthquake affected school has begun.

A total of 28 people were present to support the cause including teachers, School Management Committee and esteemed chief guest, the representative from Rural Municipality Mr. Maniraj Gurung. Some of the students also gathered to attend the program. Due to heavy rain, the ceremony was very precise and started from 12 in the afternoon. Chief Guest, Mr. Bhim bdr. Aale Magar (Chairperson of SMC), Principal and NJSI dignitary staff laid the foundation stone.

The new building will spread out on double stories level of four classrooms with ample of space for educational development of the students. The School Management Committee and parents expressed their gratitude and hope to NJSI for all the support. The project is financially supported by Xavier Network.

 

Honored by Pope Francis

On 2nd May 2019, Nepal Jesuit Social Institute was blessed by the presence of Reverend Monsignor Segundo Tejado Muñoz, Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development who flew from Rome especially to attend the inauguration ceremony of Activity Center for special children. On this special occasion he surprised us with Pope Francis special note addressing the children and to NJSI specifically thanking for contributing virtuous deeds in the society which was highlight of the entire program. The center in Shree Bhagwati Secondary School, Kavre is built with the blessings and financial support of the Pope’s fund, Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.

To acknowledge the letter and thanking him for his enormous support, NJSI sent him a souvenir with the signature of Susta Manisthiti Purnasthapana Kendra’s special children. Pope Francis has happily received our gifts and imparts his apostolic blessing to NJSI.

A Guidance to Technological World

In this advance world where everything is related with applications, internet and technology, computer education plays a vital role in student’s life. Computer education holds a power to learn new skills and more advance version of current lesson. Nowadays computer is used everywhere either it be to paint using windows paint or cracking a specific code using other computer system. Almost every office and organization wants staff with at least basic computer knowledge.

For a competitive world where everyone is fighting to get a better job experience, Nepal Jesuit Social Institute is helping the underprivileged girls/women to be able to stand with others and maintain their standard of living. To help this vision to achieve it’s goal, NJSI collaborated with St. Anne’s which was then led by the organization in Godawari as St. Anne’s Executive Secretarial Management Course. Helping them to develop their personality and encouraging them to learn standard way of communicating, this program was developed since 2017. From then to till now, 3 batches has already completed the 6 month course of Computer training, Personality development and English improvement classes.

This year also the training has begun from 1st June, 2019. Altogether 15 girls started the training with Ms. Office and Type Writing whereas more of them are expected to join within 2 weeks. They will soon start personality development courses and activities. Hope each of them will grab all the opportunity to learn and graduate with flying colors. NJSI wishes all of the students a great success in life.

 

 

EXPANDING HORIZON OF EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION

Personal Development Camp (PDC) started with the aim to help children in their choices for the future concerning scholarship, career and workplace giving them knowledge and clues. In past
few years, PDC helped children to be aware about their rights which will help them to react properly if something happens and also to think critically in every situation. On 13 th June 2019, PDC was conducted for two days to class 8 and 9 students of Shree Baleshwori Secondary School with ice-breaking games, presentations, interactive sharing andbreaks. The program consist of four presentations: Education, Scholarship, Critical Thinking and Child Rights.
Education presentation: this presentation consists in general talks concerning how tochoose one’s own career. Along with the presentation, children passed the RIESEC test. This acronym stands for Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising,and Conventional which are 6 main kind of character a person can be. Usually, one of these is the strongest that defines the global way of thinking of the person. Given this, the test gives some advice concerning the type of career for each case.
Scholarship presentation: this presentation consists in explaining the different kind of scholarship one can choose after grade school notably relating with the first activity.
Critical thinking activity: this activity consists in raising awareness among children about the importance of developing one’s critical thinking. This way of thinking will notably help them in their choices and also in any issue or doubt they will meet.
Child rights: this activity consists in teaching the children their rights, notably towards school and family. The purpose is to help them reacting in case of violation of their right.

 

 

More than 50 students took part and were happy and interested throughout the program. They were not shy at all and ready to participate. Even teachers of the school came and took part in the activities and also asked us to share our presentation to conduct this program on their own which made the program successful.
